Diane shares 28 years of experience as a Master Therapist, with specialized knowledge and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Psychoeducational Groups for Parents, and Addictions Counselling. She uses this expertise to help clients transform into their best selves, Body, Mind and Spirit.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps clients develop personal coping strategies that help resolve current problems and change unhelpful patterns in cognitions (e.g., thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes), behaviors, and emotional regulation. Studies have found CBT-alone to be as effective for treating less severe forms of depression and anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), tics, substance abuse (with the exception of opioid use disorder), eating disorders, and borderline personality disorder.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often recommended in combination with medications for treating other conditions, such as severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and major depression, opioid addiction, bipolar, and psychotic disorders. In addition, CBT is recommended as the first line of treatment for the majority of psychological disorders in children and adolescents, including aggression and conduct disorder.

Addictions Counselling

Diane’s professional education includes a diploma in Clinical Counselling in Addictions (DCCA) plus international certification (ICADC). Working with clients from diverse cultures, she effectively counsels people with addictive disorders. By assessing severity of dependence and readiness to change, she helps her clients develop self-strength through education, intervention and treatment. Fostering a sense of belongingness and connection are both central to recovering from an addiction, therefore forming the core of the work Diane does with persons dealing with addiction.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) theorizes that some people react more intensely and unusually in emotional situations. As a certified DBT therapist, the treatment will address psychosocial aspects helping the person identify and build on strengths. Over time, persons clarify thoughts, beliefs and assumptions that can make life more difficult and learn to cope with sudden intense surges of emotion.

Generally, DBT is managed through individual weekly psychotherapy sessions that teach stress & anxiety management, focusing on regulating emotions. Building self-confidence, self-respect and self-image are also taught. Learning and practicing basic social skills is a foundation of DBT management. Mindfulness skills are taught as a method of developing tolerance and emotional intelligence.

Psycho-Educational Groups

Psycho-Educational Groups for Parents are designed for parents who are dealing with children with a continuum of issues. These issues usually affect the entire family structure. Diane facilitates parenting groups to help parents develop social and emotional skills, and cope with their unique set of family dynamics. These parenting groups are for parents dealing with every sort of issue, from as simple as communicating better with their kids, to getting them to complete their responsibilities, to dealing with larger problems like addiction, eating disorders, and other mental health issues.
